Jefferson Vineyards
Thomas Jefferson and Italian viticulturist Philip Mazzei began planting grapes on 193 acres of land south of Monticello in 1773, thus pioneering the introduction of European varietals onto Virginian soil. Jefferson Vineyards’ modern legacy dates back to its first new plantings under the ownership of the Woodward family in 1981. Since then, it has been named by Wine Spectator as having “one of the region’s most consistent track records” in producing exceptional dry wines in their small production winery.
