Veritas Vineyard & Winery
From the Latin phrase, “In Vino Veritas,” meaning “in wine, truth.” Founders Andrew and Patricia Hodson emigrated from England in the early 1970s and purchased Saddleback Farm, the current site of the vineyard, in 1999 after raising three children. By 2001, they had their first vintage ready for production. Today, they are joined by their adult children Emily, George and Chloe in growing the highest-quality wines from grapes that match the rich central Virginian terroir. Winery tours include visits to crush pad, wine cellar, barrel aging room and a discussion of basic wine production. The tasting room, located inside the estate house, is lit by a fireplace and evokes a manor-esque great hall, while the sun deck along the outside perimeter is a quintessentially southern verandah.
